Hildasholm Project

Hildasholm, originally known as Stengården or “The Stone Court”, was built by Axel Munthe, physician to Queen Victoria of Sweden, for his English wife, Hilda, as a summer home in the Leksand province of Sweden. Here they raised their young family, and Hilda nurtured her love for elaborate tranquil gardens and the arts. Her impact can be felt to this day; Hildasholm is now a stunning cultural and educational centre, maintaining Hilda’s beautiful gardens and putting on arts and theatre performances for the public.

Adam Munthe, who grew up with his family at Hildasholm, said:

“Dalarna and my childhood home, Hildasholm, now open to the public as a cultural and educational centre, is my favourite place on planet Earth! But loved places become pink elephants very quickly, and lose their living quality unless they're made to serve a purpose.

Our old home is now an Ideas Laboratory for the future ( I'd hate it called a museum!) - with festivals, workshops,  regular tours available in the house and gardens, mindfulness options, musical evenings, sculpture exhibitions, and more. And we're winning accolades as one of the more famous gardens in Sweden.”

Good Works have supported Hildasholm through our clients to maintain the buildings and grounds, support arts projects, such as the Hildasholmsmusiken Festival, and provide a green therapy respite project.
